Bijli Mahadev (Kullu)

Yet another beautiful place to visit in the Himalayas. Bijli Mahadev is a Temple situated at the top of a mountain above Kullu Valley. This Temple was built a long time ago. It is situated at an altitude of 7874 ft. Lord Shiva is said to be here from time immemorial. In this Temple lies a pillar made up of wood, and a Shiva Lingam. Lightning strikes this region sometimes on the Lingam and some times on the pillar. And the Lingam (abode of Lords Shiva) breaks into pieces, and the temple priest collect the pieces which comes in his dreams where the pieces are located. He collects all the pieces and a unmarried girl joins these pieces with butter. This Lingam is completely made up of butter. And this goes on whenever lightning strikes the Lingam or the pillar.

One should carry warm clothes and a blanket or two if want to stay for a night. Normally blankets are provided, but its good if you carry your own. Food is available at local tents which are located at the top near the Temple.
